- Center for ReSource Conservation’s Solar Week is Sept 28 – Oct 3. On offer will be workshops about solar energy, incentives and assistance available to reduce environmental impact and tours of Boulder County homes featuring a wide range of green building techniques. - In June 2006, University of Colorado, Boulder celebrated the University Memorial Center’s $32 million addition that received a Silver certificate from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings. It is the first building on campus and the second in the state to receive the award.
- Lafayette’s Thomas Natural Farm project selection committee has recommended Shanan Olson and Rich Pecoraro to farm the land. The Boulder couple owns Abbondanza Organic Seeds and Produce. The project calls for organic farming, a stand to sell the produce to the public and an education component, pending approval this fall by Lafayette’s City Council.
- In July 2006, Men’s Journal ranked Boulder one of the top ten of America’s heart-healthiest cities. Minneapolis-St. Paul and Austin, TX, were the top two.
- Denver-based CORE, a sustainable business association, announced in August 2006 that it is joining forces with The ReDirect Guide. The guide is a comprehensive business directory and resource guide that presents choices for healthy and sustainable lifestyles. - The first annual Gluten-Free Culinary Summit was held in August 2006 at Copper Mountain. Boulder resident, Marc David, who is a nutritionist and author, emceed the event. - The seventh annual Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Fair was held in Fort Collins Sept. 16-17 at the New Belgium Brewing Company. The event featured 125 national and regional exhibitors as well as 35 educational workshops. For information visit www.sustainablelivingfair.org.
- The Rocky Mountain Chopra Center & Spa announced in July 2006 that due to higher-than-anticipated interest in the Deepak Chopra affiliated center, the project will be 24,000 square-feet rather than 17,000. The project is part of the Myananda Inspired Living yoga, health and residential complex in Westminster. The center is opening in fall 2007.
