  • Center for ReSource Conservation’s Solar Week is Sept 28 – Oct 3. On offer will be workshops about solar energy, incentives and assistance available to reduce environmental impact and tours of Boulder County homes featuring a wide range of green building techniques.   • In June 2006, University of Colorado, Boulder celebrated the University Memorial Center’s $32 million addition that received a Silver certificate from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings. It is the first building on campus and the second in the state to receive the award.

County Gauges Support for Organic Farming on Open Space

Boulder County open space officials have recruited a panel of small-scale farmers, including Wyatt Barnes, co-owner of Red Wagon Organic Farm, to advise it in considering the launch of a program that would lease parcels as small as three acres for farm projects on open space. The officials are considering the 45-acre Peck Property, a field southwest of Longmont, as a test site for the project, according to Longmontfyi.com. Boulder County Commissioners Adopt "Zero Waste" Policy

The Boulder County Commissioners on Nov. 22 adopted a "Zero Waste" policy as a guiding principle for all county operations and for outreach and actions within the community, according to a county press release. The goal of the plan is to achieve zero waste or "darn near" by 2025. For more information visit www.ecocycle.org.
